In mid-2024, the Hunan Provincial Department of Education held a meeting on mental health in primary and secondary schools across the province, emphasising the comprehensive strengthening of the mental health of primary and secondary school students and sharing the successful experiences of Ziyang District in Yiyang City, Changsha No. 1 Middle School, Furong District in Changsha, Tianyuan District in Zhuzhou, and Sangzhi County in Zhangjiajie City.
Policy Context of Mental Health Work in Hunan Province
The Hunan Provincial Department of Education made it clear in the meeting that mental health education should be included as an important part of school education, and that a ‘four-in-one’ mental health system should be constructed, i.e., ‘health education, monitoring and early warning, counselling services, and intervention and disposal’. At the same time, it was stressed that it was necessary to improve the psychological early warning and intervention mechanism, optimise the collaboration mechanism, implement funding inputs, and support regions and schools in a position to do so to innovate mental health work models.

(i) Product Overview
The ‘Psychological Assessment System’ is an innovative product based on artificial intelligence and big data technology, providing schools with efficient and accurate mental health monitoring and assessment services. The system can quickly and objectively assess students' mental health through multimodal data collection (e.g., facial expression, voice, semantics, etc.) combined with deep learning algorithms.
(II) Product Advantages
1.Accurate assessment
It adopts multi-modal data fusion technology, combining multi-dimensional data such as facial micro-expressions, voice and semantics, to accurately assess students' mental health.
The system is trained based on 100,000 levels of medically labelled data and is applicable to people aged 12-65, with an accuracy rate of over 91%.
2. Efficient and convenient
The assessment process takes only 3-5 minutes, and the comprehensive assessment report is quickly generated through AI technology, providing schools with timely and effective mental health monitoring.
It supports multiple terminal forms such as WeChat, APP, and cloud services, making it convenient for schools, teachers, parents and students to use at any time.
3. Privacy
The system uses separate account information desensitisation technology to ensure the privacy and security of students while meeting the needs of schools and parents for privacy protection.
(iii) Application Scenarios
1. Mental Health Monitoring
The psychological assessment system can provide schools with regular mental health monitoring services, helping them to detect students' psychological problems in time and intervene in advance.
The system supports regular mental health census, establishes student mental health files for schools, and realises the fine management of ‘one case per lifetime’.
2.Psychological Early Warning and Intervention
Combined with the ‘four-in-one’ working system proposed by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education, the psychological assessment system is able to provide real-time early warning of students' mental health risks and provide schools with scientific intervention suggestions.
The system supports in-depth connection with school psychological counselling rooms and psychological teachers to achieve rapid response and effective intervention for psychological problems.
3.Mental Health Education
The psychological assessment system is not only used for monitoring and early warning, but also supports the development of mental health education programmes. Through functions such as AI virtual quiz and look-at-diagram description, the system is able to provide students with rich mental health education resources.
The system supports schools to carry out mental health education activities, such as ‘Mental Health Activity Month’, ‘Mental Theatre’, etc., to enhance students' mental health awareness.
